Through this, the body, mind, and brain can be fully healthy. When these three keep fit, you make yourself feel healthy. Not only are diseases diagnosed through yog, but they can also overcome many physical and mental problems by adopting them.

Yoga infuses new energy in life by strengthening the immune system, keeping the body robust and flexible, and relieves stress, which is very important for everyday life. But do you know what yoga is? And what are the definitions, rules, benefits, and how many types of yoga are there?

What is Yoga?

The word Yoga originated from the Sanskrit word ‘Yuj,’ which means to connect. Yoga has two meanings, one is to connect, and the second is samadhi. Unless we can connect with ourselves, it isn’t easy to attain the level of samadhi. It is not just an exercise but a science-based physical activity. Yog aims to unite the body, mind, and soul through physical and mental training.

All three physical, mental, and spiritual health benefits can be achieved by regular yog asanas, Pranayama, and mudra. The history of Yog dates back to the origin of humanity, but organized Yog is considered to be the product of Maharishi Patanjali and Gherand Muni. All the forms of Yog are mentioned in Yog Sutra, Gherandsamhita, Hatha Yog Pradeepka, and Shiva Samhita, etc.

The second definition was given by Maharishi Patanjali, who is considered a Yog Guru or Janaka.

According to Patanjali– “योगश्चित्तवृत्तिनिरोध:” yogashchittavrittinirodhah means to balance the desires of the mind is called Yoga.

According to Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev– When, you learn to hold the entire body properly; you can feel the energy of the whole universe inside you. This is the Yog.

Rules of Yoga

There are several specific rules to be followed before and after doing yog, which we describe below:

According to the rules, Yog should be done before sunrise and after sunset. Getting up early in the morning and doing yog is more beneficial.

Before Yog, it is necessary to do a mild warm-up so that the body opens up.

Yog should always begin with Tadasana.

Yog postures should always be done on an empty stomach in the morning.

For the first time, those who are doing Yog should do light yog asanas in the beginning and do it under the supervision of a yog instructor. Then as they become accustomed, they increase their level.

If you are doing Yog in the evening, do it only after three to four hours after having your meal. In addition, eat something after half an hour of doing yog.

One should not take a bath immediately after performing a yog pose but should wait for some time.

Yog poses should always be done by wearing comfortable clothes.

The place you are doing yog should be clean and quiet.

While doing yog, try to get negative thoughts out of your mind.

The most important rule of yog is that it should be done patiently and no posture should be over emphasized.

All Yog-sanas depend on breathing and exhaling, which is necessary to have complete knowledge. If possible, first learn about them, only then try to do it by yourself.

If you are ill or pregnant, do it only after consulting your doctor. Also, do these under the supervision of a qualified yog-instructor.

Always do Shavasana at the end of Yog-asana. This calms the body and mind completely. Yog is fully benefited only by performing Shavasana.

Do not drink cold water during Yog, because the body is warm while doing Yog.

Therefore, instead of cold water, drink only hot or soft and lukewarm water.

The right time to practice Yoga

In yoga science, the day is divided into four parts, the Brahma Muhurta, the sunrise, the moon and the sunset. Of these, Brahma Muhurat and Sunrise are considered to be the best for Yog.

It is believed that if you get up and do Yog in the Brahma Muhurat, it is the most beneficial. At that time, the atmosphere is pure and fresh air is blowing. Usually, only those who attain spiritual knowledge do Yog at this time.

The time of Brahma Muhurat is considered to be 4 am. Everyone can’t get up at this time, so it is better to do Yog, even at sunrise. This keeps the body energetic throughout the day.

Keep in mind that Yog is always done on an empty stomach.
